JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – Comedian and host of The Daily Show Trevor Noah fired on all sorts of big names in politics and media at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night, including President Joe Biden, former CNN Chairman Jeff Zucker and Senator Kyrsten Sinema.
Noah took the opportunity to sting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis at the Washington DC event hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA), an organization of reporters who cover the White House.
“One of my favorites, Ron DeSantis is here. Oh man, I’m actually surprised he found the time,” Noah said. “You know he’s been so busy trying to outsmart [former President Donald] Trump for 2024. I see you, Ron. I see you, player.
DeSantis has dismissed any talk of a presidential run in 2024, although it is widely believed he will end up throwing his hat in the ring and challenging Trump, who has also been unclear about his intentions for 2024.
“Yeah, I saw what you did, blaming Trump for blockages, walking away from vaccines that Trump created with his own hands,” Noah said before launching into a Trump impersonation.
Noah then said that DeSantis was being coy in not revealing if he received a COVID-19 booster shot.
“He won’t even tell people if he got the booster,” Noah said. “Or as they say in Florida, don’t ask, don’t tell, right?” I see you, Ron.
The Daily Show host then called DeSantis an upgraded version of Trump, using a classic movie reference.
“Trump was the original Terminator, DeSantis is like the T-1000,” Noah said. “You’re smarter than him, you’re smarter than him, you can go down ramps. Because you see, no, Trump said he won the election, but everyone could look at the numbers and see he was wrong. That’s why Ron DeSantis has a head start, first you ban math textbooks, then nobody knows how to count the votes. Boom, man!”

Noah was referring to the math textbook controversy last month.
The state rejected 54 math textbooks for banned subjects, then released examples it says confirm its rejection of the textbooks. The Florida Department of Education has published examples of what it calls critical race theory and an example of social-emotional learning that Governor Ron DeSantis said was found in unpublished books. FDOE eventually reinstated some of the books.
Although Noah alluded to DeSantis’ presence in the audience and a photo from a program shared on Twitter listed him as an attendee, a spokeswoman for DeSantis said the governor was not there and never planned to be there.
“Why do people say Governor DeSantis is at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner!” ? Because DC Democrats and the media (but repeating myself) keep talking about him even during their prom?” DeSantis spokeswoman Christina Pushaw tweeted Sunday. wishful thinking / an obsession.”
