Why was “The Wonder Years” canceled?
The series was a resounding success between 1988 and 1993 before ABC suspended the series. According to Alley Mills’ interview with Yahoo, the dramatic comedy was reportedly boxed due to a sexual harassment lawsuit. Mills played Savage’s television mother, Norma Arnold, and claimed it was a “ridiculous” lawsuit against Savage, whom she described as “the least offensive, the most human being. wonderful and sweetest that ever walked on Earth “.
The lawsuit was reportedly filed by Monique Long, the show’s costume designer, who accused then 16-year-old Jason Hervey (Wayne Arnold) of physically and verbally harassing her. . She added that their abuse prevented her from doing her job, which led to her dismissal. At the time, the show’s reps and cast denied the charges, and the lawsuit was dropped following an out-of-court settlement.
“So I just thought [the lawsuit] was a big joke and it was going to explode, ”Mills said. “It’s kind of like what’s happening now – innocent people can get caught up in this stuff; it is very delicate. That was not true. It was my dresser, and I don’t care if she listens – I probably shouldn’t say that, but I don’t care because it was so long ago and it must be over now. The actress also explained that she “was not allowed to speak” about the trial in 1993. “Which upset me so much. We had a gag order and I felt like shouting on the TV: “It’s ridiculous !”
The official reboot synopsis reads: “The Wonder Years is set in the late 1960s and takes a nostalgic look at the Williams family, middle-class black residents of Montgomery, Alabama, through the point of view of an imaginative 12-year-old Dean. ” Saladin K Patterson. Lee Daniels, Marc Velez and Savage, the star of the classic, are executive producers.
