(WPRI) – Broadway is back at the Providence Performing Arts Center. The iconic theater is once again hosting live performances for the first time since spring 2020 due to the shutdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first show to launch in the 2021-22 season is “Pretty Woman: The Musical,” which premieres October 9 and runs through October 16.
The highly anticipated comeback of “Hamilton” will premiere at PPC from November 30 to December 22.
Other performances this season include “Rent” and “Jesus Christ Superstar” in January, “An Officer and a Gentleman” in February, “The Prom” and “Oklahoma” in March, “Ain’t Too Proud” and “Dear Evan Hansen” in April, and “My Fair Lady” and “Blue Man Group” in May.
The Rhode Show’s Will Gilbert, Brendan Kirby and Ashley Erling had the chance to chat with some of the stars behind these incredible shows.
“We are more than thrilled,” said JL “Lynn” Singleton, President and CEO of PPAC. “As everyone knows, last year the goal post kept moving. And finally, they’re in a fixed spot, and we’re going to kick the ball through the goal post. “
As for subscribers, Singleton says PPAC is already having a successful season.
“Not only did our subscribers renew at a healthy rate, but all of the people who renewed stayed with us throughout the year,” he said. “Then this fall we ran a very aggressive renewal campaign and in fact we have the second largest Broadway series renewal base in building history.”
The Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) features a comprehensive list of touring Broadway productions and contemporary engagements; Broadway will return for the 2021/2022 season in October 2021 with this launch of the National Tour of PRETTY WOMAN: THE MUSICAL.
