Taliban take advantage of rides at Mazar-e-Sharif amusement park in Afghanistan, days after setting fire to another

Taliban activists were seen enjoying an amusement park on Sunday in Afghanistan’s fourth largest city, Mazar-e-Sharif.

Muslim Shirzad, a Kabul-based university professor, shared the video on Twitter.

In the video, Taliban activists can be seen riding a huge swing at an amusement park in Mazar-e-Sharif.

Earlier, Taliban insurgents reportedly set fire to an amusement park, days after video showed them enjoying rides in Kabul. A 2-minute video clip that surfaced online Thursday night shows flames burning at Bokhdi Amusement Park in the northern city of Sheberghan.

According to activist Ihtesham Afghan, the reason behind the act is that statues / idols standing in public access are illegal in Islam. The Taliban, who took control of Afghanistan on Sunday, said they would rule the country under austere Sharia law.

Earlier on August 17, the The Taliban blew up the statue of Hazara leader Abdul Ali Mazari, who fought against them during the civil war in Afghanistan in the 1990s, casting doubt on their claims that they had become more moderate.

More recently, on Tuesday, the Taliban declared an “amnesty” across Afghanistan and urged women to join its government, trying to calm nerves in a tense capital which only the day before saw chaos at its airport. that people were trying to escape their dominance.
