EXCLUSIVE: Baby Cow by Steve Coogan is forged Live at the Moth Club for UKTV, a comedy series from the legendary east London location featuring major British comedy stars such as Stath rents apartments creator Jamie Demetriou and What we do in the shadows stars Natasia Demetriou.
Broadcast on Dave, the UKTV channel owned by BBC Studios, the program will show performances from the club as well as pre-recorded sketches showing what happens ‘behind the scenes’ and during production.
Others to participate include Demetriou’s Stath rents apartments co-star Ellie White, please i like Arnab Chanda, Channel 4 Cardinal Burns’ Dustin Demri-Burns and Seb Cardinal, that of the bubble Ben Ashden and Dreaming while Black’s Alexander Owen.
This new wave of British comedians take part in some of the biggest comedy shows in the country today, led by three-time BAFTA winner Demetriou Stath rents apartments for Channel 4, currently broadcast in the United States by producer Roughcut TV. This time with Alan Partridge Creator Coogan lost to Demetriou at last month’s BAFTAs in the Male Performance in a Comedy Program category.
Baby Cow CEO Sarah Monteith called Live at the Moth Club a “classic Baby Cow show“, calling it “a collective of top comedic talent – new and established – playing together, pushing boundaries and creating a world of fun”.
Channel manager Dave Cunningham said: “I am delighted that we have award-winning comedians and friends, collaborating on a brilliant, original and irreverent new show for the channel. This show lends itself to cutting-edge comedy, so should be a comedy treat for Dave’s audience.
The show has shades of Amazon Prime Video Behind the scenes with Katherine Ryan, which launches on the platform today, showing live performances from Britain’s top comedians as well as what they’re up to behind the scenes.
Baby Cow is also working on an adaptation of the novel by Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer To catch a king, with which Coogan develops The lost king co-writer Jeff Pope, revealed by Deadline.
Live at the Moth Club is commissioned for UKTV by Mark Iddon, Editor, and commissioned by Cherie Cunningham, Channel Manager Dave. Richard Watsham is director of commissioning for UKTV and Steve North is managing director of genre, comedy and entertainment. Sarah Monteith and Rupert Majendie are executive producers of Baby Cow with Mark Iddon serving as executive producer for UKTV.
