Sherman Community Players Welcomes New Associate Artistic Director


Sherman, Texas — Sherman Community Players welcomes its new artistic director, Darrah Dunn. He joins the Players as he completes his 73rd season with the beloved musical, The sound of music with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.

“The Sound of Music is a wonderful piece to start my term,” says Dunn. “It’s that wonderful classic of modern musical theater that involves multiple generations and can use the Finley stage.”

Dunn continues, “This job gives me great personal satisfaction. After more than 30 years of working with the Sherman Community Players, I look forward to taking on this leadership role. The opportunity to collaborate with other talented artists in the region to produce live theater is a dream come true.

Darrah Dunn is already developing plans to expand workshops and the use of performance stages to expand Sherman Community Players educational programs to children and adults. “We will always have great productions and entertain our theatergoers, but we need to increase our diversity and excitement through higher education programs.”

Darrah holds a BA in English from Austin College and an Associate’s Degree in Theater Arts from Lon Morris College. While at Lon Morris, he became a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the Theater Honor Fraternity.

Darrah Dunn has a long history in the performing arts in the Texoma area, having performed in many productions, most recently performing SCP’s Blithe Spirit. He has also directed successful productions such as The Journey to Bountiful and The importance of being serious.

SCP Chairman of the Board, Ed Richardson, said of Dunn, “Darrah has been impressing audiences with her stage performances for thirty years, and I look forward to seeing her creativity and talent for collaborating with more. others used in new ways in his role as Director Artistic Director Darrah understands the importance of honoring SCP’s history while seizing opportunities and looking to the future.
