Memorial Day weekend will see three days of events honoring those who have died in our nation’s wars.

In what has become an annual tradition, Southern Regional High School planned a Memorial Day Field of Flags and Ceremony to honor military men and women who have given their lives in service to our country. On Thursday, May 26, a 12-inch by 18-inch American flag will be placed for each military member who died in Iraq and Afghanistan. Southern Air Force Junior ROTC cadets and other students will place the flags on the lawn outside the 9/10 Building, closest to Route 9, throughout the day.

On Friday, May 27 at 10:30 a.m., a Memorial Day Mass is scheduled at the site and open to the community. In case of bad weather, the ceremony will take place in the auditorium. More than 100 students will participate by singing with the choir, as musicians in the orchestra and by reading messages. The flags will remain up through Memorial Day weekend. For more information on this project, contact Senior Colonel Joseph Potts at [email protected] or 609-597-9481 ext. 4236.

On Saturday, May 28 at 11 a.m., a celebration will be held at surf town at Veterans Park.
