LC organizes auditions for the Opera Musical Theater


Theatrical productions continue at Laredo College and are making the dreams of many actors come true with the upcoming auditions of an opera musical fall production.

“Cyrano de Bergerac” is a romantic musical about a man very embarrassed by the size of his nose. He is convinced that he is unlovable, despite his deep feelings of love for a beautiful woman. Cyrano is also a poet and a great swordsman.

Using a mute handsome man, who is also in love with the same woman, Cyrano woos her vicariously by speaking Cyrano’s words to her. Although initially attracted to the handsome man’s physique, she falls deeply in love with the soul and poetry of his lyrics and no longer cares about his appearance. However, before the men can explain the truth of the situation to the woman, the handsome man is killed in battle and with no way to prove the truth and not wanting to tarnish the fallen man’s reputation or cause more pain. to the woman, Cyrano chooses to let the truth of his love remain hidden.

Laredo College’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts will bring these humorous and romantic characters to life in the fall 2022 production of “Cyrano de Bergerac.” The department is looking for talented actors, actresses, singers and swordfighters to join the musical opera, which is set to fill the stage with a romantic and comedic production scheduled between October 27 and October 6. november.

Auditions will be held July 25 at 7 p.m. at the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Center for Fine Arts, room 102. No experience is necessary to audition but is preferred. The person must possess singing or acting abilities, problem-solving skills, and a team mentality. The department is looking for approximately 25 male and female participants. No child roles will be auditioned for this production.

Prepared songs are encouraged but not required. Selected scenes will be provided to those who audition to read and sing. Performers should wear clothing that allows them to move freely during auditions.

The director will make the final selection with advice from other professionals. Selected cast members who are eligible will be required to enroll in the Opera Musical Theater and/or Stage Movement course at Laredo College. They should also be aware that students commit to attending extended hours in addition to class hours.

Class begins August 22, 2022. Opera Musical Theater will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-8:40 p.m. Stage Movement will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:05-9:35 p.m. Rehearsals and participation will be extended. during the week.
