Nebula Dance Lab presents “HUMANITY” at 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 4 at the Lobero Theater. Inspired by Charles Dickens’ short story “The Story of the Child”, HUMANITY is a life exploration of truth, the presence and celebration of our differences.
The choreography is by Chloe Roberts, under the direction of Devyn Duex, with performances by special guests. Nebula’s latest evening adaptation follows the main character’s journey through New York City and its various themed neighborhoods, illustrated through a diverse palette of dance, music and multimedia.
Nebula Dance Lab was founded in 2010 under the artistic direction of Duex to provide an incubator of creative art in motion, allowing the professional company of modern and contemporary dance artists the opportunity to experiment, push the boundaries and to create a new language in dance through physical exploration.
Nebula has captured the attention of the industry, showcasing her work from intimate venues to major theaters, to concerts in the United States and around the world.
The Outreach Program offers movement performances / workshops and a student matinees program at The Lobero, accompanying students for a live theatrical experience, through a partnership with The Lobero Fund, Santa Barbara Education Foundation, CAPTRUST Community Foundation, Towbes Performing Arts Fund, CA Council for the Arts, Ann Jackson Family Foundation and Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation.
As part of Nebula’s Student Matinee program, in partnership with the Lobero Theater, the Leni Fe Bland Foundation and the VAPA Arts Coordinator, HUMANITY will be presented to over 2,400 students in person and live.
As a producer, Nebula launched the Indy Award Winning, HHII Dance Festival, in 2015, showcasing some 30 works across three unique shows, showcasing the performances of 20 companies and over 100 artists from the United States.
The HHII Dance Festival expanded in 2016 to include international artists, an opportunity for the community to see a wide range of professional dance works, all under one roof, over a three-day festival format.
The festival continued to expand, including the launch of the opening night program in 2017 featuring the Apogee Awards, honoring excellence in dance instruction and showcasing youth and performance. pre-professional during a celebration evening; Mix & Mingle in 2018, offering a pre-party, a music and video projection, a live and a post-party; free public performances at Paseo Nuevo in 2019; and go 100% virtual with talent from all over the world in 2020.
