Everyone’s Favorite Star Schitt Creek is set to star and co-write a new animated comedy series for Hulu. Dan Levy was critically acclaimed with his work as David Rose in the series Schitt Creek and since then he has answered questions from fans asking when we would get more hilarious content from him. Now according to Deadline, he will co-write an animated comedy entitled Standing guardian angels, with screenwriter and director Ally Pankiw.
Levy will also be voicing a character on the series, which falls under his overall agreement with ABC Signature and Levy and Pankiw will serve as both writers and executive producers for the series. This is the next step for Levy after his award-winning performance as David Rose.
Deadline stipulate that Standing is:
“A satirical look at the lives of a group of eternally bound and disgruntled guardian angels and the lessons they will eventually learn not only from the dysfunctional humans they are tasked with protecting, but also from each other.”
Levy will play a recently deceased New Yorker who lived a lonely life before… well, died. This isn’t the first time Levy and Pankiw have teamed up either. The two worked together on Schitt Creek after Pankiw was hired as a writer in Season 3.
Standing is an initiative by Hulu to bring more adult entertainment to the streaming platform. After the premiere of their hit show Solar opposites, Hulu has been trying to find more shows for 20th Television Animation and it will be interesting to see how Levy and Pankiw operate in an animated world.
Levy’s comedy recalls his father Eugene Levy, which is why the two have worked so well on Schitt Creek together, but Levy has proven to be a full-fledged comedy powerhouse in things like Hulu. The happiest season, where he played opposite Kristen stewart and Mackenzie davis. Pankiw is a writer best known for the NBC comedy pilot Someone there and, most recently, she directed the Netflix series Feel good.
Levy and Pankiw clearly work well together and seeing them tackle a new medium will be fun for fans of Schitt Creek. There is no release date yet for Standing, but we’ll make sure to update as more details emerge.
