On Day 9 of the VALORANT Champions Tour 2022 Masters Stage 2 tournament, Fnatic and FunPlus Phoenix won their lower bracket matches; this development sets up the fifth series between them in Stage 2.

EMEA teams go through

The first series of the day was between Leviatán and Fnatic, the top seeds of their respective regions. When the first map started on Fracture, the signs of a three-map close streak were there. A 7-5 half, forced overtime and a decisive Fnatic win put them 14-12 and 1-0 up in the series. On Ascent’s second map, Leviatán fought back after a half tied 6-6 to win 13-10. It all came down to Bind, with another 7-5 halftime lead for Leviatán. After a great performance from Jake “Boaster” Howlett on Astra, Fnatic took the lead. Despite this performance, a mistake by Booster on the defuse cost Fnatic the win in the regular rounds, forcing an OT.

The first overtime was saved by a big clutch from Enzo “Enzo” Mestari, and the second was another draw. The third started with a Booster 4k operator but evened out. In the fourth overtime, Enzo got the eliminations needed to win it all for Fnatic, 17-15 and the series 2-1.

The second series of the day was FunPlus Phoenix vs. DRX, a rematch with both teams’ tournaments on the line. On the first map of Ascent, the teams kept the map close, reaching halftime tied 6-6 . After DRX won the first two attacking rounds, they lost six rounds in a row. That was it for the card, losing it 13-9 after going up 8-6. Going into Fracture, DRX couldn’t get off to a strong start. FPX entered the half 9-3. DRX didn’t fight much as FPX continued their form, winning the map 13-5 and the series 2-0. Their record of never winning a playoff match at an international LAN continues.

game of the day

Enzo gets the 3v1 clutch on top of proving the saying that the pros don’t fake it is true.

Day 9 Stage 2 Masters Copenhagen MVP

With the series tense, it has to go to the player who got the final card for Fnatic in Enzo. He got the game of the day with his 1v3 clutch defusal, but he was crucial in almost every overtime Fnatic faced on Bind. He is tied with teammate Emir Ali “Alfajer” Beder for the highest KAST in the hall on Bind, at 84%. Besides having great stats, what doesn’t show on paper is his clutch factor for Fnatic to win. Fans can rewatch that quadruple overtime and see how important Enzo was to that victory and to keeping Fnatic’s hopes alive on day nine of the Stage 2 Masters Copenhagen tournament.
