Netflix is set to produce and release a new dark comedy thriller series titled Bodkin from Easttown Mare producer Wiip the team that produced Mare of Easttown for HBO and Higher Ground Productions which is the production company run by Barack and Michelle Obama.
Wiip is behind the project which is best known for its work on shows like HBO Easttown Mare and that of Apple Dickinson. They produce alongside Higher Ground Productions, founded by Barack and Michelle Obama, which is the production company behind many titles on Netflix through their comprehensive output deal.
Jez Scharf will serve as the lead writer for the series and will also be involved as showrunner alongside Alex Metcalf.
Scharf is perhaps best known for his writing on short films, including Mr Cookies and The undreamt.
Metcalf has been involved in a host of high-profile projects, including serving as an executive producer on The loudest voice and HBO Sharp objects. He was also a co-producer of Kingdom which came to Netflix globally after getting a fixed term license (it was licensed until May 2021.)
Tonia Davis of Higher Ground Productions serves as an executive producer who was involved in the production of Higher Grounds Netflix, including We the people, Waffles + Mochiand the not yet released Rust film.
What is Bodkin about on Netflix?
The series is about a ragtag team of podcasters who set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in an idyllic Irish coastal town.
Once they start pulling the strings, they discover a much bigger and stranger story than they could have ever imagined. As our heroes attempt to discern fact from fiction – about the case, their colleagues and, most painfully, themselves – the series challenges our perception of truth and exposes the stories we we tell stories to justify our beliefs or validate our fears.
The show focuses on Dove, who hails from Dublin, Ireland. She is described as a “truth-seeking missile” and a “hard-nosed investigative reporter with a well-tuned bullshit detector”. At the beginning of the series, we will see Dove in a professional crisis.
When will Bodkin be in production?
The show is currently set to shoot in Ireland from June 2022. We are told that the show will be in production for around 5 months and will end in November 2022. This would mean that we would likely see the show land on Netflix in 2023 as soon as possible.
Netflix did not provide any comment on the project when asked to comment.
